Beschreibung:

 How do you disagree without backing down? How can you criticise someone without creating conflict? And what does someone really mean when they say, “That?s certainly an interesting approach??
This advanced C1/C2 course explores the linguistic and cultural subtleties of diplomatic communication in English. Focusing on situations from professional and personal life, we examine the role of tact, humour and linguistic finesse in navigating difficult conversations. Topics include understatement, irony, dry humour, indirect criticism and
passive-aggressive language, as well as the ways people communicate what they mean without always saying it directly.
A further focus is the strategic use of advanced English grammar to soften statements, assert a position, set boundaries and express criticism diplomatically. We will also explore formal, bureaucratic and legal language, examining how precise wording communicates rights, obligations, conditions and restrictions. Through a wide range of topics, authentic examples and practical exercises, participants will develop a deeper understanding of cultural conventions and learn to communicate with greater
confidence, nuance and tact in challenging situations.

Lernmethoden: Authentic dialogues, listening and reading materials, examples of professional communication and selected formal documents will provide the basis for the course. Discussions, pair and group work, role-plays and realistic communication scenarios will allow participants to experiment with different ways of expressing themselves and reflect on their effects. Grammatical structures will be analysed in context and put into practice. Participants? own experiences and questions will help shape the course.
Participants will develop their ability to communicate precisely, diplomatically and appropriately in challenging professional and personal situations.

Vorkenntnisse: The course is intended for advanced English learners at C1/C2 level who wish to refine their expressive skills, intercultural awareness and confidence in communication. A strong command of English and a willingness to participate actively in discussions and practical exercises are required.
