Beschreibung:

You don't have money for new clothes, but your old ones have too many air holes even for Berlin summer? And you would like to do something more creative with your hands than doomscrolling through messages? Then come learn mending with me!
This course will teach you different techniques for mending that will make your clothes more long-lasting and will turn your wardrobe into a marvel of individuality and sustainability.

What to Expect:
This course teaches simple sewing and repair tasks that can be done by hand. Various darning and repair techniques (darning, sachiko, etc.), an overview of materials, decorative embroidery techniques - doodlestitching, hand sewing; various stitches, simple alterations; hemming pants, sewing on buttons...

How It Works:
On the first day, various repair techniques will be explained, and participants will practice them. On the second day, participants will apply these techniques to clothing items they have brought with them. A handout will be provided for participants to take home so they can replicate the project on their own.

What You'll Learn:
The goal of the course is to teach participants various repair techniques that will enable them not only to extend the life of their garments but also to make alterations that better adapt a garment to their individual needs or style.

Who This Is For:
People who, for reasons of sustainability (or financial considerations), would like to keep their clothes longer and/or add a personal touch to their outfits. The course is suitable for beginners.

Meet Your Instructor:
My formal training began at the HBLA School of Art and Design in Linz, but I taught myself most of the techniques presented in this course in order to lead a workshop on sustainability at the Neue Mittelschule Potsdam. I have been teaching the course in this format since 2025 at the VHS in Neukölln and Marzahn-Hellersdorf.

Core Concept:
It is important to me to give all participants enough time to learn at their own pace and to feel confident that they can apply the techniques on their own by the end of the course. I also place greater emphasis on teaching techniques that can realistically be used in everyday life, rather than simply passing on “textbook? techniques.
